Christmas is time for family and friends.  Unfortunately some people find themselves alone at this time of year.  Don't spend Christmas Day alone - The Diamond Valley Uniting Church is organising a Christmas lunch on
Christmas Day for people who may be on their own or at a loose end at
this time of year.

If you would like to have a chat about coming or just to say “yes”
phone Diane on 9718 2035 or email: glenaben@bigpond.net.au,
or phone Ruth on 94381322.

There is no cost, everyone welcome and transport can be arranged.

Text Box: Annie:  "My water saving tip is bucket showers. My family has been having them for over two years. We still have baths whenever we want, and use water normally elsewhere. We have a very green quarter-acre block. Our water use is far below the 150 litres per person requirement."
Steve:  "Thanks Annie, great tip.  Just make sure you bend at the knees when picking up those buckets."
Eliza:  "Our household of 5 uses under 3 hundred litres a day and these are the no-cost reasons why; we use the soapy washing machine water to flush the toilets and use the rinse water on the garden; we use a plastic basin in the kitchen sink for rinse water only, which goes on the garden; best of all we use the kids' bathwater by priming a normal garden hose under the tap (shove it right in) for about 5 seconds, then weighing it down under the water with a rock and draining it onto the garden - no heavy bucketing required. All you need is a slight downhill slope and let gravity do the rest. Tell you about the no-water veggie patch another time!
Steve: "Some excellent ideas there Eliza, thanks.  I have a large veggie patch at home so can't wait to hear your hot tip for that."
Graham: "When you want a hot cloth to wipe down benches/tables, instead of turning on the hot water tap and wasting all the water until the water gets hot, just wet the cloth with cold water and put it in the microwave on high for 10 seconds."
Steve: "Of course! Such a simple idea that saves plenty of water and electricity."

Every day, in every way, use less water

Water is a scarce and precious resource.

In Victoria, our water supplies are facing the growing challenges of climate change, which brings hotter weather, less rainfall and reduced streamflows, as well as an increasing population. This means less water for more people.

We need to make saving water a permanent way of life to secure our water supplies for future generations.

Water Smart Gardens and Home Rebate Scheme

Victorians are continuing to be rewarded for water-saving purchases under the Water Smart Gardens and Home Rebate Scheme. More than a billion litres of water has been saved. Rebates are available on three-star rated shower roses, dual flush toilets, greywater systems, rainwater tanks, tank to toilet connections, water audits, and a basket of water saving goods.
